Introduction
This color-grading study explores different ways to treat footage captured across towns, nature, and lakesides using DaVinci Resolve. Shot entirely on the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 at 30 fps in D-Log M, the goal was to practice lighting adjustments, color balances, and exposure correction on overly bright source files. Rather than forcing a uniform look across the entire video, this project treats each clip as an individual canvas to test unique color combinations and discover what works best.

Concept & Approach: The project serves as an experimental sandbox. Because some source clips were overly lightened during shooting, a key challenge involved recovering highlight details in bright skies and architectural surfaces without losing shadow depth in nature and water settings.
Workflow & Color Science: Working in DaVinci Resolve with a DaVinci Wide Gamut pipeline, the workflow focused on clip-by-clip exploration:
Exposure Control: Taming extreme highlights to restore natural textures in overexposed areas.
Individual Grading & Experimentation: Testing various looks to see which color palette best matched a specific environment—from warm, organic earth tones for towns to deep greens and blues for lakes and nature.
Dynamic Combinations: Emphasizing stylistic variety rather than strict matching, allowing individual clips to feature distinct moods and contrast levels.
