[Introduction]
The Sport Noord Cup is a student sports event in Antwerp, aimed at active students and taking place at the end of June. The goal of this project was to create an informative and engaging explainer video that introduces participants to the different sports disciplines, their locations within the park, and key facilities such as the central hub, catering, and restrooms.
[Description]
I started with several rounds of storyboarding, iterating on composition, pacing, and character design. All illustrations were created by hand, from the event map to the animated characters. The characters were rigged using DUIK Angela in Adobe After Effects, allowing for expressive and natural motion throughout the animation.
To reflect the energy of each sport, I applied motion design principles such as anticipation, exaggeration, and rhythm. Each discipline is introduced with its own animated character, followed by a clear transition to the park map, where the specific location is highlighted. Zooming in and out of the map and using smooth scene transitions ensured a dynamic flow and avoided static “presentation” shots.
The video concludes with a call-to-action, highlighting the Sport Noord Cup logo alongside the event website, ensuring clarity and accessibility for the target audience.
